Hi Reader! I’m Kaye Kennedy, author of Burning for Secrets. I hope you enjoyed reading Brix and Georgia's story as much as I'd enjoyed writing it. I sat down for an interview with the happy couple to give you an inside look at their relationship. I know I’m happy for them, and I’m sure you are, too. So without further ado, let's see what they had to say, shall we?
We're in the living room of their apartment in Manhattan. Georgia is six months pregnant, and is sitting on the couch, while Brix is sitting on the floor with ten-month-old Neo, who is playing with colored blocks. Their dog, Zeus, is cuddled up on the floor beside them.
Kaye Kennedy:
Thank you for meeting with me today to talk about your unconventional love story. Before we begin, I want to congratulate you on baby number two.
Georgia:
Thank you. Things are about to get pretty hectic around here.
Kaye:
I'll bet. Do you know what you're having yet?
Brix:
A daughter.
Georgia:
Isn't he going to be the best girl dad?
Kaye:
I can absolutely see that! How exciting.
Brix:
Hopefully, she looks just like her mama.
Georgia:
We'll see, but if Neo is any indicator, then your family genes are strong.
Brix:
Either way she's gonna be beautiful because God's gonna test me like that, I know it. At least she'll have her big brother around to protect her.
Georgia:
But not too much like you and Theo did to me.
Brix:
I will apologize for nothing.
Georgia:
Yeah, yeah. You were just secretly scaring all the boys away because you wanted me for yourself.
Brix:
You know it, sweetheart.
Kaye:
I see some boxes in your dining room. Are you planning to move?
Brix:
We close on the sale of this place in a few weeks. I'm kinda sad to leave it, but it's time. This place is way too small for two kids and a dog. Plus, I bought it for a steal, so we're making a killing on the sale.
Georgia:
True, but we're still trying to find a place, so it's quite stressful.
Kaye:
Are you planning to stay in Manhattan.
Georgia:
That would be ideal. And in this neighborhood because it's close to both our jobs. Neo's daycare is around here also.
Brix:
It's been nice having Autumn and Dylan close by, too. Not only for us, but our kids love to play together.
Georgia:
We trade off babysitting with them, as well. Although, four kids might be a bit much for one of us to manage.
Brix:
Nah. We can handle it.
Georgia:
Oh, we
can, huh?
The block tower that Brix was building toppled and Neo squealed with delight.
Brix:
Dinosaur!
Georgia:
Laughs. You're practically another kid. Now that Neo's getting older and can interact with us more, Brix plays with him pretty much constantly.
Kaye:
That's sweet.
Georgia:
Totally, but sometimes I wonder if he's playing for the baby's sake or for his own.
Neo:
Dada. He points at the blocks.
Kaye:
He's talking?
Brix:
Sure is. Dada was his first word.
Georgia:
And my husband makes sure everybody knows that, too.
Brix:
What? I'm proud. We've got a smart kid. He also says Mama and Zu for his dog.
Kaye:
His
dog?
Brix:
Oh, yeah. Zeus is definitely Neo's.
Kaye:
Do you still bring him to the firehouse?
Brix:
Not as often as I was because, honestly, he seems to like hanging out with my son more, but I still bring him to work with me maybe twice a month.
Georgia:
Zeus gets to come to work with me, too. I think he likes being around all the other animals.
Kaye:
How are things going with your job?
Georgia:
The practice is great. I don't think they're thrilled that I'll be going on maternity leave again, but it's not like we planned this.
Brix:
No, we didn't, but we're glad it's happening this way.
Georgia:
Definitely. We only want two kids, and truthfully, it's sort of better for my career if I take all this time off now versus spreading it out after I've built up a solid patient roster. Plus, the industry is always changing, not I won't have to worry about having off gaps.
Kaye:
That makes perfect sense. Speaking of careers, Brix, how are things going at your firehouse now that Mack and Kyle are gone?
Brix:
I definitely miss them, but the new lieutenants are cool. I've become pretty good friends with one of them.
Kaye:
Do you know where they ended up being stationed?
Brix:
Kyle went to the Bronx, which puts him closer to home, so he's happy with that. And Mack went to East New York.
Kaye:
With Jesse?
Brix:
Yeah. Mack's the captain and Jesse's the lieutenant.
Kaye:
I bet that's fun.
Brix:
No doubt. It's funny how he goes from working with one of the Hogan brothers to another. He's seeing a ton of work, too.
Kaye:
Speaking of brothers, is it a safe subject for me to bring up Derek?
Brix:
Sure. There's not a ton to report, though.
Georgia:
He invited you down to Florida for that fishing trip next month.
Brix:
I guess. But I'm not sure I'm going.
Kaye:
Why not?
Brix:
Things are kinda weird between us. Maybe it's because we've both dated Georgi, and now we're both gonna technically have a kid with her, even if Neo is totally mine. I also still hold a bit of a grudge for how he'd treated my wife.
Georgia:
I'd be lying if I said it didn't weird me out, too. Not have I truly forgiven him.
Brix:
Manny and Robin are cool, though. They love being grandparents.
Georgia:
All the grandparents love being grandparents. Our kids are gonna be so spoiled for life. A lot of kids are lucky to have one or two grandparents, and ours have five.
Kaye:
That certainly is fortunate. And they have Uncle Theo.
Brix:
Have you heard about the adventure he's on?
Kaye:
A little, but our readers haven't.
Georgia:
He ended up getting on that dating show, so he's been down in the Caribbean for the past month.
Kaye:
Well, that doesn't suck.
Brix:
That's what I said.
Georgia:
We don't know a ton of details because we can't have contact with him, but we did find out from the show's Instagram that one of the girls on the show is someone from around here. She's weirdly connected to us because she works at Dylan's brother and sister-in-law's brewery.
Kaye:
Right. Kenzie. The readers met her briefly in your book.
Brix:
She's got a reputation.
Kaye:
How so?
Georgia:
Whispering.
She used to work at an S-E-X dungeon or something.
Brix:
Not quite the kind of girl I think my mother-in-law had in mind for him.
Georgia:
Well, we don't know if they're even together, just that they're both there.
Brix:
I guess we'll find out soon.
Kaye:
Indeed, we will. Thank you both for spending some time with me today. It was great catching up with you. Best of luck with all the big things coming your way.
Theo and Kenzie's story, Burning for Reality, will be available on Amazon on September 18, 2023. Trust me, the ninth book in this series isn't one you're going to want to miss!
