BB4 Bonus Epilogue

Burning for Fate

She’d said she didn’t believe in true love, but I had a feeling that somewhere deep inside, she hoped it existed, and I was determined to prove it to her.

Bonus Epilogue

Hi Reader! I’m Kaye Kennedy, author of Burning for Fate. I hope you enjoyed reading Jace & Britt's story as much as I enjoyed writing it. I sat down for an interview with the happy couple to give you an inside look at their relationship. I know I’m happy for them, and I’m sure you are, too. So without further ado, let's see what they had to say, shall we?

We're sitting in the living room at Jace & Britt's apartment. Jace and Britt are sitting beside each other on the couch and Jace has his arm around Britt's shoulders.

Kaye Kennedy (KK):
Thank you both for being here today to talk about your whirlwind relationship. First, congratulations are in order. How’s married life treating you two newlyweds?

Jace Palmer (JP):
It’s the best. She’s the best.

Britt Palmer (BP):
I’ve got the greatest husband in the world. It’s been three months, but it still feels so weird, but cool, calling him that.

KK:
I’ve got to say, the two of you look incredibly happy.

JP:
We are. If you’d told me this time last year that I’d be married right now, I never would’ve believed it, but it’s good. It’s really good.

BP:
That makes two of us. I honestly never thought I’d get married. Sometimes, I’m still shocked that I actually am, but I wouldn’t change a thing.

KK:
Let’s talk a little bit about how you’ve gotten to this point. You eloped in Vegas on a whim, and at the time you, Britt, seemed to still be getting used to having a boyfriend. Then, in one night you gained a fiancé and then a husband. What was that all like?

BP:
A little scary, but I knew in my gut and in my heart that it was the right thing. My brain tried to talk me out of it, but I listened to my intuition, which was screaming at me to say ‘yes.’

She pats Jace’s thigh.

This man and I were put on this earth to do life together. The more time we spend together, the more apparent that becomes. I almost screwed up the best thing that has ever happened to me because I was stubborn and I was scared. But Jace has a way of calming me with just a look or a soft touch. And he’s not afraid to call me out when I need to be checked.

JP:
That one goes both ways, baby. We’re both stubborn as hell and that nearly cost us this relationship early on. Now, we try really hard to be open about communicating and working on compromising. Can’t say we always get it right, but make up sex is fun.

BP:
Laughs.

Yeah, it is.

KK:
I’m impressed, Jace. Sounds like being married suits you. Tell our readers about what was going through your mind when you decided to propose to Britt.

JP:
Hands down the craziest thing I’ve done, but it felt right. As you know, we’d just met Britt’s father and emotions were running high. I admired the hell out of Britt for taking the leap of faith to meet him. I knew how difficult that was for her, but she impressed the hell out of me. When we left, she seemed so happy and I realized that I wanted to spend every day trying to make her that happy.

He kisses her head.

She had a rough start to life and I want to make up for that. While we were walking down the strip, she held onto my arm and having her that close felt…right. Natural. It just kind of hit me. I knew I was gonna marry her at some point, so why wait? Life is too damn short. I wanted our forever to begin right then and there. She’d just met her family and in a way it was like she was getting a fresh start and I wanted to be a part of that with her. I wanted to create that with her.

When we walked past the street vendor and I saw the flowers and the rings, this crazy idea took hold: We were in Vegas and could actually get married right then and there. I laughed to myself at the ridiculousness of it, but then once I realized we were next to the Eiffel Tower at Paris hotel, it felt like a sign. So, I went for it.

KK:
Were you worried that she’d say no?

JP:
I probably should have been, but I wasn’t. I was determined to make it happen, so I wasn’t gonna take no for an answer.

BP:
No kidding. You didn’t really even ask. You pretty much told me to marry you.

JP:
He squeezes her shoulder.

I regret nothing.

BP:
Me neither.

KK:
We didn’t get to see your wedding, so tell the readers how that went down.

JP:
It was epic.

BP:
It really was.

JP:
We found this chapel with a drive-thru, but we didn’t have the car because we walked there, so we were gonna go back to get the car, but then Britt noticed that they also had a walk-up window.

BP:
So we stood in the drive-thru lane and got married through a window like it was a fast food joint. It took all of five minutes.

They’re both laughing.

JP:
It was ridiculous, but absolutely perfect. At the end of the day, I didn’t give a shit about how it happened, as long as I got to make this girl my wife.

They kiss briefly.

KK:
I’ve got to hand it to you, for something so simple, you make it sound quite romantic and sweet.

BP:
It was. I mean, the fact that we were eloping so unexpectedly made the drive-thru a perfect fit. It was spontaneous and crazy, but also very us.

JP:
It really was. I wouldn’t change a thing.

KK:
How’d your mom take it, Jace?

JP:
Let’s just say it looks like we’ll be doing a vow renewal at some point. Thankfully, my sister is planning her wedding for next fall, so that’s keeping my mother occupied.

BP:
Your dad loved it though.

JP:
Yeah, well he sees what Steph’s wedding is gonna cost him, so of course he was all about us eloping.

KK:
Well, I’m sure I speak for the readers when I say how thrilled I am for you both. It’s clear after being around you for just a few minutes that you belong together.

BP:
Everyone says that. We were just a little slow on the uptake.

JP:
One of us was a little slower than the other, baby.

BP:
We’re here now, though. All that matters.

JP:
Absolutely.

KK:
Let’s switch gears a little. Britt, what has transpired with your father since that first meeting?

BP:
Things are going well. Really well. He came to visit a few weeks ago with Sarah and Danny for Thanksgiving and we all ended up celebrating together in New Jersey at Jace’s parents’ house.

JP:
It was kinda intense seeing my Pops and Rod reuniting after all these years. Rod seriously credits Pops with having saved his life back in the day.

BP:
It was incredible. Having all of us together was a true blessing.

She squeezes Jace’s hand as she chokes back emotion.

It was the first real family holiday I’d ever had. I’ll never forget how special it was.

JP:
The first of many, baby.

BP:
We’re going to try and coordinate a visit down there again this winter when Rod’s mom is going to be there. I’m looking forward to meeting her.

JP:
And Danny is thinking about coming up to stay with us for a weekend before the spring semester starts up. I want to take him to a Knicks game. He’s got a real talent for basketball.

BP:
Yeah, I hope we can make that happen. We chat quite a bit. He’s really funny and it’s kinda hard not to like him.

KK:
It warms my heart to hear how well that has turned out for you. You’re married, you’re getting to know your family, and I assume you got the department editor position, yes?

JP:
She did. And she’s kicking ass at it.

KK:
I have no doubt. And what about you, Jace. How are you doing?

JP:
Better. Turns out my wife was right. I needed to work through the trauma. And I have.

BP:
I’m sorry can you say that again so I can record it?

KK:
Not to worry, Britt. I’ve got it recorded, so I’ll be sure to get you a copy.

BP:
Perfect.

JP:
Oh, crap.

KK:
Sorry, Jace.

JP:
Yeah, yeah. Girl code. Got it. But I want the part where she called me the greatest husband in the world.

KK:
Deal. Tell me what’s next for you guys.

BP:
Honestly, we’re just taking things a day at a time and enjoying being together.

JP:
Exactly. I’m milking this honeymoon phase for as long as I can.

KK:
As you should. Well, thank you both for meeting with me and for being open to share your story with the world. But before we go, Kyle’s story is next. Anything you can share about that?

JP:
Shit, that’s complicated. Let’s just say we’re seeing a whole new side to Kyle and I think we’re all a little shocked and confused—his brothers, too.

BP:
It’s a good thing, though. None of us really know how it’s going to play out, but I hope he can find happiness. He’s a good guy.

JP:
If by good you mean broody as fuck.

BP:
Oh, stop it.

JP:
All right, all right. Yes, he is a good guy. He’s been through a lot and we all want to see him happy.

BP:
I have a good feeling that we will.

JP:
We shall see.

KK:
Yes, we shall. Thank you both, again. And congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Palmer. I can’t wait to follow your journey and see where it leads.
